What is mobile marketing?

Mobile marketing is getting your message to your market using mobile platforms (like cell phones) and mobile technology (like text messages).  It’s sending text messages to your market with offers, promotions, or news.  It’s ensuring your market can find you when they’re searching for you from their phone using local search engines.  And its having a website that works for visitors using mobile devices.

Why is mobile marketing important?

Having a mobile marketing solution is important, because…

  • More and more people are using their mobile phone to get information; the numbers speak for themselves… the trend up.
  • When they start searching, you want them to find you.
  • Because people usually have their mobile phone with them, you can text them wherever they are.  Otherwise, you can’t.
  • When they visit your web site, you want to be ready.  Most business websites are not mobile-friendly yet.  So that gives you an advantage if yours is.
  • When they find your mobile site and read about you and your offers – if you did a great job of grabbing their attention – they’ll take action right there from their car, the park, the office, the kitchen table …
  • You now have the ability to reach your market from wherever they are.

How to send text messages?

You need a SMS (Short Message Service) autoresponder.  It’s a tool that allows you to create a list of your prospects and customers and send text messages to them.  When you contact me, I’ll tell you how you can get one for free.

How to ensure your site is mobile-friendly?

To make sure your site is going to work when visited from a cell phone, all you need to do is:

  1. Build a simple mobile-friendly version of your site.
  2. Place some simple code on your regular site to detect when a visitor is on a mobile phone.
  3. Automatically route your mobile phone visitors to your mobile site.

Your mobile-friendly version doesn’t need to be as complicated or advanced as your main site.  It just needs to provide the sort of information someone would want when browsing from their phone: perhaps your phone number, address, or blog.

You can, of course, build something more elaborate.  But in most cases it’s not needed.
